Investors Business Daily, the most accurate polling outfit of 2004 says the race is virtually tied.

IBDeditorials.com: Editorials, Political Cartoons, and Polls from Investor’s Business Daily

The race tightened again Sunday as independents who’d been leaning to Obama shifted to McCain to leave that key group a toss-up. McCain also pulled even in the Midwest, moved back into the lead with men, padded his gains among Protestants and Catholics, and is favored for the first time by high school graduates.

At Bush’s request, Obama will attend Washington meeting Thursday -  Detroit Free Press

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama will go to the nation’s capital Thursday after being asked by President Bush to attend a meeting on a solution to the turmoil in America’s financial markets.

It comes just hours after Republican presidential nominee John McCain asked Bush to call a meeting of congressional leaders, as well as the presidential nominees, to reach some sort of bipartisan solution to the impasse over a $700-billion bailout plan for Wall Street.

Polls - Republicans Taking Back Congress ? »

It looks like the voters may be waking up to the fact the Democrat controlled Congress with lowest approval rating in history is in need of “change”.

Battle for Congress Suddenly Looks Competitive

A potential shift in fortunes for the Republicans in Congress is seen in the latest USA Today/Gallup survey, with the Democrats now leading the Republicans by just 3 percentage points, 48% to 45%, in voters’ “generic ballot” preferences for Congress. This is down from consistent double-digit Democratic leads seen on this measure over the past year.

Voting On and By Race? »

Racism is the only reason Obama might lose. - By Jacob Weisberg - Slate Magazine

What with the Bush legacy of reckless war and economic mismanagement, 2008 is a year that favors the generic Democratic candidate over the generic Republican one. Yet Barack Obama, with every natural and structural advantage in the presidential race, is running only neck-and-neck against John McCain, a sub-par Republican nominee with a list of liabilities longer than a Joe Biden monologue. Obama has built a crack political operation, raised record sums, and inspired millions with his eloquence and vision. McCain has struggled with a fractious campaign team, lacks clarity and discipline, and remains a stranger to charisma. Yet at the moment, the two of them appear to be tied. What gives?

I guess this snapshot of voters preference according to race means nothing to race-baiters like Slate’s Jacob Weisberg.

Candidate Support by Race

Zogby Poll - McCain Leads Obama »

Obama is losing support among key groups!

Zogby International

A national Associated TV/Zogby International telephone poll of 1,011 likely voters conducted July 31-Aug. 1 finds Republican Sen. John McCain taking a razor-thin 42%-41% lead over Democrat Sen. Barack Obama in the race for the U.S. presidency.

The Obama campaign has to be terrified right now.

McCain made significant gains at Obama’s expense among some of what had been Obama’s strongest demographic groups. For example:

This poll comes on the heels of the Rasmussen poll showing McCain now leading Obama.
